Nanjing set up two new foreign experts bookstore foreign experts service position and add new members

Foreign experts’ bookstore is an important window to tell China’s story, spread China’s voice and promote mutual understanding of civilizations. This year, on the basis of coordinating the distribution of foreign talent resources and position construction in the city, Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology has set up two new bookstores for foreign experts, adding new strength to the foreign expert service work in Nanjing. At present, the number of bookstores for foreign experts in Nanjing has increased to six, with a total area of more than 4,000 square meters and a total collection of more than 20,000 books. All six bookstores can meet the diversified needs of foreign talents for reading, business, leisure and communication.

From August 30 to 31, relevant comrades of Foreign Talent Research Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology researched the management and operation of overseas talent attraction organizations in Nanjing, during which they visited two newly established foreign experts’ bookstores and unveiled plaques for the bookstores.

Located on the 12th floor of the JinYuZui Foundation Building in Nanjing’s Jianye District, the Foreign Experts Bookstore, which was applied for construction by the Jinling Overseas Alumni Service Center, occupies an area of about 1,500 square meters, and currently has a collection of 200 books in a variety of languages, including English, German, French, and Japanese. Jinling Overseas Alumni Service Center is an innovative service organization dedicated to the investment and development of alumni and overseas Chinese in Ningbo, bringing together thousands of overseas alumni and overseas Chinese from 17 universities and colleges such as Nanjing University, Southeast University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. On the one hand, the bookstore can utilize the functional advantages of the center to attract more overseas talents to develop in Ningbo. On the other hand, it can also give play to the dissemination function of the bookstore, deepen foreign talents’ understanding of China, and enhance their sense of identification with Chinese society and culture.In the afternoon of August 30th, Xu Qingqun, Chief Editor of “International Talent Exchange” and “Experts’ Work Newsletter” of Foreign Talent Research Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Wang Wang Zhuanhua, Deputy Director of Nanjing Science and Technology Bureau, came to Jinling Overseas Alumni Service Center, and jointly opened a bookstore for the Foreign Experts’ Bookstore. On the same day that the Nanjing Science and Technology Bureau and the Jianye District Science and Technology Bureau jointly presented books to the Foreign Experts Bookstore, the first cultural salon was held in the bookstore, where more than a dozen foreign students from Germany, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and other countries gathered to appreciate the charm of traditional Chinese culture. The salon started with the writing of Chinese characters, through which the foreign students gained a deeper understanding of the Chinese way of life and explored how to better adapt and integrate into their lives in China. In the session of experiencing Chinese tea culture, the international students tasted a variety of teas such as green tea, white tea, rock tea, black tea, etc., and took out the snacks they brought with them to share with the audience, with cordial exchanges and warm interactions on the spot. Rania Rafik, a Moroccan international student from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, said, “During the event, I had in-depth exchanges with students from different countries and experienced different cultures and ideas.” Sanjit Adhikari, an international student of Nepalese nationality from Hohai University, believes, “This event made me realize that cultural exchanges between different countries and regions are very important to enhance friendship and understanding among people around the world. I believe that through such activities, we can understand each other better and promote international exchange and cooperation.” People expressed the hope that the bookstore can organize more foreigners to participate in various activities, meet the reading needs of foreign experts and foreign students in universities, and better enable them to understand China, integrate into China and love China.
