Yangtze River Delta pilot zone’s signature development moves towards net-zero emissions

The demonstration zone piloting integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta released a plan for its signature project Water Town Livingroom on August 25 to gradually lower carbon emissions.
The demonstration zone sits in the middle of the delta and consists of Qingpu District of Shanghai, Wujiang District of Suzhou in Jiangsu and Jiashan County of Jiaxing in Zhejiang. The Water Town Livingroom development in the zone occupies an area of 35.86 square kilometers and is seen as a flagship initiative for eco-friendly growth.
The plan includes three goals of carbon emissions reduction compared with the BAU approach, namely about 60% by 2025, at least 70% by 2030 and 80% by 2035.
The plan specifies objectives and measures for five key areas important to carbon emissions – building, transportation, ecosystem, energy and industry.
The Water Town Livingroom will green buildings, an intelligent public transportation network, a resilient ecological environment, a comprehensive energy system, and innovative industries. Efforts will also be made to foster the role models spearheading green and low-carbon development and support the project’s move towards net-zero emissions target.
