Nanjing-centered City Cluster forms IPRs protection alliance

The Nanjing-centered City Cluster, which consists of ten cities and districts in total, formed an intellectual property rights protection alliance on August 29 during a meeting to boost cooperation in the IPRs endeavor.

The alliance’s establishment is in line with decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on strengthening IPRs protection. It also followed an agreement in 2019 by the top IPRs authorities in Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Anhui to coordinate law enforcement in the Yangtze River Delta region. In addition, Jiangsu and Anhui have also joined other 10 provinces and municipalities in a cooperation framework to step up cross-regional IPRs protection efforts.

Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu, took the lead in the city cluster to build itself into a powerhouse of IPRs. By the end of June this year, Nanjing was the first city in Jiangsu to surpass the threshold of 100,000 valid invention patents. In the first half of the year, Nanjing ranked first in Jiangsu in each of the three indicators: the number of new invention patents granted, the number of valid invention patents, and the number of invention patents per 10,000 people.
