Information technologies enhance education equality in Jiangsu
Jiangsu has made great achievements in the application of information technologies in education over the past ten years, according to a press conference by the province’s Department of Education held in Nanjing recently.
Jiangsu ranked second for five consecutive years among province-level regions in China in terms of comprehensive education informatization.
Online teaching in schools has improved significantly. At present, the proportion of multimedia classrooms in primary and secondary schools increased from 33% to 91% in ten years. In addition, 98% and 99% of primary and secondary schools provide digital terminals for students and teachers respectively. In the province, there are 13.9 educational gadgets for each 100 students and 10.9 devices for each 10 teachers.
In addition, Jiangsu has built the Smart Education Cloud Platform that integrates more than 30 application systems, providing services to nearly 10 million teachers and students in primary and secondary schools.
For basic education, there are more than 23,000 online lectures given by star faculty to cover all subjects in primary and secondary education, which have been visited for over 2 billion times. For vocational education, the online resources include nearly 1,000 open courses recognized at the state or provincial level and 51 state-level databases for teaching. For higher education, there are more than 1,800 open courses for undergraduate students and 586 virtual simulation experimental teaching projects, which together provide nearly 30 million services to teachers and students.
Information technology has been deeply integrated into education process, greatly promoting the quality of learning and teaching. Across the province, 92% of teachers at primary and secondary schools make regular use of information technology in their classes.
Jiangsu has also built a smart employment platform accessible to all universities in the province. It has more than 5 million university students and nearly 120,000 employers registered. The platform provides more than 2 million job openings and attracts nearly 1 billion visits annually.
