Jiangsu’s foreign trade with SCO countries in 8 months reach 163.72 bln yuan

In the first eight months of this year, Jiangsu’s foreign trade with member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) reached 163.72 billion yuan, an increase of 24.6% year-on-year, according to Nanjing Customs. 

Data showed the coastal province increased exports and imports with the SCO and countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative. 

On September 15, under the supervision of Taicang Customs House, subordinate to Nanjing Customs District, Xuchuan Chemical (Suzhou) Co Ltd exported 72 tonnes of polyurethane resin to Uzbekistan via a China-Europe freight train. 

The company’s customs affairs manager Shen Liudi said that freight trains have brought the markets in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan closer, expanded connection with customers, and ensured the stable trade with the two countries for more than five years. The freight train service also helps reduce transport costs and the number of transits, which has increased $9 million in revenue for the company each year. Xuchuan Chemical exported 3,580 tonnes of products via the trade route in the first eight months this year, an increase of 32.5% year-on-year. 

Hua Jinxiu, deputy general manager of Nanjing Bodao Storage Co Ltd, said the company’s main clients are in Pakistan and India, two member countries of the SCO. The company’s exports to the two countries reached 450 million this year, and customs authorities also allowed the self-printing of certificates of origin to facilitate the trade.  

Nanjing Customs has further enhanced its services for Jiangsu enterprises, such as improving the application for certificate of origin and offering both online and onsite consultations. From January to August this year, Nanjing Customs issued 6,873 certificates of origin for goods worth $584 million exported to SCO member countries.
